A Downtown Sioux Falls gem is starting to sparkle again. Various groups have been working for years to renovate the theater at 318 S. Phillips Ave. On the list of improvements is building a new concession area and bathrooms between the lobby and the auditorium. Then, the attention will be turned to the auditorium, including restoration of the walls and 1000 new seats.
The theater raised more than $1 million toward the restoration project last year through the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce’s Community Appeal capital campaign. Businesses contributed that money, and the remaining money for this phase of the restoration will come from donations from individuals or families.
During the past decade, other groups and the current State Theatre Co. have raised more than $2 million. That money helped replace the roof, renovated the lighted marquee and made many other improvements that kept the building from further deterioration.

When the theater re-opens they will have all kinds of movies, blockbusters, children's, foreign, independent and even classic movies will be shown.
